Once, Edward had berated her for her false words about his kind. Now, however, he knew he had been wrong to do so. She truly did care for those like him, and his closest friend. His gaze moved from her, to Sam, and he toyed with his cane in hand. “Kindness and warmth is new to me, I admit. I have lived a cold, frightened life of solitude. He has taught me differently, and so have you.” His gaze darted away, as if embarrassed of sharing something so heartfelt. “I am nothing without the pair of you.”

“Don’t sell yourself short, Ed,” Sam grinned, purposely using the shortened version of his name for effect. “You’ve done a lot for me, for everyone else. That’s not something you ought to forget,” he added with a mix of firmness and friendliness. He enjoyed compliments as much as the next person, but he would not have others put themselves down in the process. He knew all too well the effects of such self-deprecation, and he was sure they both did as well. Still, it didn’t hurt to do what you good to boost the confidence of one’s friends. “You help those who need it most.” He glanced at Elsa, offering her a small smile. “You listened to us when no one else wanted to.”

As Elsa realized how nervously Edward was toying with the cane in his hand, she raised her own hand to gently rest it on top of his. For a moment, she just smiled at this lovely picture, but eventually tilted her head to give his cheek a short kiss. “He is right,” the woman told softly, “You have saved us.” With that, she slightly pulled back her head to delicately nod at the clown’s statement, giving him a small smile back. She knew that the both of them would understand her very well, if she talked about how cruel people could be. But, luckily, there was nothing to be scared of – not anymore. “Let me tell you, your cold life is over.”
